NSCA RSCC*E

I recently achieved a professional milestone I am very proud of: I am now a Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach® Emeritus (RSCC*E).
The designation is reserved for Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). This achievement recognizes certified coaches who have 20 years of experience or more in the field.
The CSCS is the credential that signifies you have passed the CSCS certification exam and maintained the necessary continuing education requirements per 3-year recertification period.
The RSCC is an extra step beyond the CSCS, as it signifies that a CSCS Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach has met specified higher standards for team-based professional and practical experience in the strength and conditioning profession. Every RSCC Coach participates in annual training and assessments beyond what is required of their peers and is held to the highest standards of practice in the profession.
As I reflect on my career and those who have mentored me along the way, I am honored and humbled. To make it 20+ years in the Strength and Conditioning profession is a huge accomplishment for anyone.
My hat’s off to all those who have come before me. Your perseverance cannot be celebrated enough. I remember watching the legends lay a strong foundation for me and my peers. We used to acknowledge the longevity of a coach and how long they stayed at a school. Now it seems like it’s all about how many different schools and staffs you can work.
Today as I sit in my administrative seat, my calling is to help those on the ground doing the work. The coaching carousel spins faster and gets more chaotic; the money and power continue to perpetuate illogical changes.
If you’re involved in this crazy cycle please do me a favor and make sure you are treating people like you want to be treated. Don’t let the cut-throat, dog eat dog mentality consume you. Work every day to be the best version of you that you can be because one day you will be able to reflect on your career and you will want to be proud.
Cheers to all the Legends and those who came before me!
