When I first met Coach Akeem Robinson at a football high school camp in St. Louis at De Smet High School, he was the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of Missouri – Rolla. I immediately took notice of his energy and passion for people as he was volunteering at the camp we were hosting and we maintained close contact from that day forward.
Coach Robinson would eventually join us at the University of Missouri as a Strength and Conditioning Intern. Unbeknownst to me, prior to his arrival on our campus, he had been living in of his car. As I’m sure you know, interns work their butts off FOR FREE so we always tried to take care of them in ways other than monetarily. After some discussions and problem solving, were able to secure living arrangements for Akeem as a house dad for a fraternity house.
To this day, I don’t know another person more resourceful than Coach Akeem Robinson. Since day one he’s been willing to do what it takes to help the people he so passionately coaches day in and day out. On the episode this passion comes through as he’s discussing his program and you can hear it through the headphones how much his work lights him up.
Coach Robinson is currently the Head of Strength and Conditioning Coach at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida and has been a Director of Olympic sports with 10 year of experience ranging from NAIA to Division I. After lettering four years at Clemson University, Coach Robinson earned his Master’s degree from the University of Missouri in Positive Coaching in Psychology. Additionally, he helped with social responsibility initiative, “Men for Men,” and was the Fellowship of Christian Athletes liaison for the strength staff.
