Guest Highlight: Aaron Ausmus
GET YOUR CHILI HOT!!! That phrase helped bring Coach Aaron Ausmus and I into mutual admiration and over the past ten years I’ve gotten to know the man he is. To put it simply, I’m thankful to have the opportunity to share his podcast episode with you.
But before I get ahead of myself, back to the chili. When I first came into contact with Coach Ausmus, he was at the University of Southern California (USC) and he sent me a T-shirt with the phrase “get your chili hot” on it. The phrase, ‘get your chili hot’ came from Coach Steve Kragthorpe when I was the Head Strength And Conditioning Coach at the University of Tulsa. Coach Kragthorpe used that phrase in his pregame talk one time and it stuck with me ever since. We would put it on signs in the weight room, on T-shirts, and in our YouTube videos. Coach Ausmus saw one of our videos and he took it to another level at USC.
I don’t know if it’s possible for two people to have more admiration for each other than Aaron Ausmus and I have for each other. Not many people who were inspired by someone else actually share admiration with the person who inspired them. This speaks to Coach Ausmus’s character. He is one of the most humble, caring, and consistent people I know. Because of these values and characteristics, Coach Ausmus is one of the most respected and trustworthy coaches in the industry.
Coach Ausmus is in his third stent at USC which further demonstrates the type of person he is. He is an outstanding husband, father, coach, entrepreneur, and friend to many. Also, he might be one of the strongest people I’ve ever met. I don’t think I have ever seen anyone better anatomically suited to Back Squat than Aaron Ausmus. An interesting fact about Coach Ausmus is he is an extreme advocate for working out in gray sweatpants.
