Goal Setting: Achieving Your Dreams in 2023

JANUARY, 2023
The new year is the perfect time to set and accomplish goals. Whether you’re an aspiring high school athlete looking to make your varsity team or an experienced player aiming for a college scholarship, goal setting will help you reach your dreams. By setting realistic goals, assessing your progress and finding ways to stay motivated, you can create a plan that is sure to help you succeed.
Why Set Goals?
Setting goals helps keep athletes focused and on track while providing them with measurable objectives they can work towards. Goals also give athletes something tangible to strive for instead of just going through the motions in practice or scrimmages. Additionally, having specific targets allows athletes to better assess their progress and identify flaws in their performance. This assessment will allow them to adjust their training program accordingly in order to reach their goals more quickly and effectively.
How To Set Goals
The best way to set achievable goals is by breaking down large-scale objectives into smaller tasks that are easier to manage. For example, if an athlete wants to make the varsity team this season, they might break that goal into smaller tasks such as working out three times a week or improving their agility drills by 10%. This tactic allows athletes to stay focused on what needs improvement without feeling overwhelmed by the magnitude of the task at hand. Athletes should also be sure to set reasonable timelines for each task so that it doesn’t become too difficult or take too long before they are able to see progress towards their ultimate goal.
Staying Motivated
Staying motivated throughout the process is key when it comes to achieving any goal. One way athletes can do this is by surrounding themselves with positive people who support their dreams and help keep them accountable for staying on track with their training program. Additionally, it’s important for athletes not to forget why they set these goals in the first place; taking time out of each day or week for some self-reflection can go a long way when it comes to staying positive about reaching those end results! Finally, rewarding yourself every now and then (within reason) never hurts either! Acknowledging how far you have come and celebrating small victories along the way can provide a much needed boost of motivation when things seem tough.
Goal setting isn’t always easy but it is necessary if you want to achieve success as an athlete this year! Break down large scale objectives into smaller ones, assess your progress regularly, find ways to stay motivated and never forget why you started on this journey in the first place; these steps are surefire ways of helping you reach any dream or aspiration you might have! Good luck!
